It was recorded by Mike Cameron, mostly in his sitting room and bedroom in an upper flat in Drylaw, a peripheral Edinburgh housing scheme. A bit of an Aladdin's Cave was No.5, unremarkable and bland on the outside, a no-mark gable end, but inside it was like a specialist music store. Wasn't much that wasn't there.. The album takes a little musical journey; it starts pretty acoustically and builds, introducing instrumentation as it goes. No drums till track 4. And they go away again, for a while. There's a few straight forward heart-break songs, but the album is populated by obscure characters like Ed Mirvish and Bernie, the man with $2000 teeth; and the tattooed drifter, nameless and genderless. And 'Not Your Man'; well, it might not be a shaggin' song at all.. The final track, a reworking of the opener, was recorded and mixed at Chambers Studios in Granton (not Grantham, home of the vampire!) and features a one-off performance by the enigmatic Mrs. Kwiecinski on drums, some nice, fat electric guitars, and Jamie Hunter's classic porno-organ.
